Comfort food and slow food - sometimes both on the same plate! Recipes for 23rd April

This silky smooth yellow split pea puree is versatile - thin it a little for soup, or use to as a dip ... The caramelised onion, caper and lemon salsa on top gives it real zing, and the textural differences are great also. Vegan, DF and GF

This is a Fennel Crumble - crispy savoury topping (parmesan, oats...) and a creamy filling of gently baked fennel. Is deceptively simple and very tasty... vegetarian only

Adzuki beans are small and cute; they don't need to be soaked overnight (although if you do it will make them even better), apparently they have less starch than other beans, and their nutritional profile generally is very impressive. Also what red bean paste is made from! So I hunted up a curry recipe for the little red bean - Adzuki Bean curry, here you go. Vegan, DF and GF

Broccoli and Cauliflower soup is about as simple as it gets... which is great. It's also very yum, very quick, very satisfying! That drizzle of sesame oil on top is delicious as you mix it through eating the soup. Mmmmm. Vegan, DF if you leave off the yoghurt, GF

We've had some great radishes lately, and then I came across this recipe for a Crispy Skinned Salmon and radish salad - also has cucumber and avocado, spring onion and loads of lemony goodness in the dressing. While the skin was not so crispy the next day (leftovers for lunch...) it was still very delicious...DF and GF

Lamb and spinach/silverbeet curry is one of my favourites. Is that a good enough reason to include it? This palak gosht is fragrant without being too spicy hot, it's full of vibrant colour (mostly green), it's a bit slow to make, giving you time to do other things while it cooks... Can be DF if you skip the yoghurt, and GF.

I hope you enjoy this week's food as much as I did!
