I think the orchard is full of trees now - unless i end up with the perfect spot for a couple of tamarillos, but then they're not technically trees...
The photo above is of the unknown Grandpa pear tree - there are four grandpa trees that were already on the land, completely overgrown with blackberry and convolvulus. I've had some expert help from Jason Ross and Declan Smith (both excellent arborists if you need one) and a lot of patient weed cutting and pulling. There are a lot of flowers here but i don't know what kind of pears i might get - if any.
This wee tree is a Taylors Gold pear - there's also a Kieffer pear just out of sight. The grandpa tree behind the Taylors Gold is a granny smith, with a side order of something Braeburn like - the second trunk heading off to the left. That weird offshoot has probably the best fruit of all the grandpa trees. To the right is a Tynemans Late Orange apple - tangy like Cox's Orange, but late in the season where Cox's Orange is early. To the right and out of sight in this picture is a Nashi called Reddy Robin - has a red blush.
As you can see i haven't staked my trees... This is a peach called Hiawatha. It has dark red leaves, according to the catalogue the peach itself has purple/dark red skin, and the flesh is golden and delicious. Sounds great!
The Billington and Luisa plums have flowered and finished, i can't tell yet whether there are any tiny proto plums but the trees are only one year in the ground so it's a bit soon to be that hopeful!
Oh but there are... here you go: Billington are further on, the Luisa are a bit later.
I'll put up more photos bit by bit. Welcome to the orchard....
